WimZr App

Updated Results:
Congratulations to wimZr-- Chosen to be Comstock Magazine's "Startup of the Month" in January 2016! wimZr also had the pleasure of being the official app to Super Bowl 50's Super Fanchase event.

wimZr is a mobile app that I worked on at Three29. Our company was hired by local entrepreneurs Blake Mori and John Parilo to brand, design, and develop a mobile travel-connection app. The idea surrounding the traveling app was that travelers could connect with people before arriving at a destination. I was assigned to brand and design the app.

I began by researching the business of traveling. Typefaces and colors were chosen to feel familiar to the users: similar to passports, airline tickets, travel guides, etc.

As the designer, I also wanted to understand the mentality behind a "connection" app. The Three29 team and I all signed onto existing connection apps such as OKCUPID, Tinder, Match.com, etc., to try and grasp what a user feels and how they interact with other people on the mobile application. I asked users many questions, and studied the behavior of users in different cities such as San Francisco, Los Angeles, Sacramento, and even Texas.

While observing my team mates using connection apps, I noticed that their hand movements on their smart phones, were similar to the movements I made with my own hands when I was playing a Gameboy. So I set out to design wimZr with the goal of the connection app being fun, easy to use, easy to read, and not intimidating at all. Careful wireframes were created to map out how a user would interact with the app from screen to screen, action to action.

Blake Mori and John Parillo loved the app that Three29 presented to them. They held a launch party when the app was developed and it was featured in hundreds of articles and many TV interviews. wimZr was also featured in Sacramento Business Journal's Top 6 Local Mobile Apps. And most recently, wimZr was hailed to audition for the popular TV show, Shark Tank. They will find out in February 2015 whether or not they made it.

Working on wimZr was an exciting and exhilarating experience. Users for the app are increasing every day, and I am working with the clients to update features and various elements.
